stem cell therapy is helping professional athletes, stem cells, Tijuana, Mexico, ProgenCellOrthopedic specialists in the United States have recently been offering autologous treatments as a way of healing the injuries suffered by athletes. The goal of these treatments is to speed up recovery time by introducing the athlete’s own stem cells into areas of the body suffering from damage and chronic inflammation. These doctors are reporting success with injured football players, baseball players, and golfers.

From what we can tell, these treatments are very close to the protocols we offer at ProgenCell. We have found only three noteworthy differences between what the U.S. sports doctors are offering and what we offer.

First, stem cell therapy is very new, investigatory medicine for doctors in the U.S. They’re only just starting to practice it in Phase 2 clinical trials, with rigid protocols that mustn’t be customized to fit each patient’s particular needs. We at ProgenCell have been practicing autologous stem cell therapy for more than a decade and have formed a clear idea of how to adapt our protocols to the maximum benefit of the individual patient.

Second, the clinical trials call for a single treatment while we have learned from experience that patients respond much better from a course of three treatments delivered at four-month intervals. Each successive treatment reinforces the previous one and enables the body to produce more stem cells, and so allows the body to heal itself faster in the future as well as the present.

Third, because the treatments in the U.S. are being conducted as clinical trials, not every patient will be treated. The patient must first meet all the study’s criteria, then there must be room in the study for that patient. The waiting lists can be daunting. ProgenCell’s time-tested protocols are not limited by such experimental constraints: we’re ready to treat you right away.

How long do the effects of stem cell therapy last?, stem cells, Tijuana, Progencell, MexicoAutologous stem cell treatments aren’t like taking prescription medicine, on one hand, nor like a liver transplant, on the other. When properly administered, autologous stem cells have a much more long-lasting effect than the proverbial “take two aspirin and call me in the morning” but not so long an effect as a successful liver transplant. Putting a number to the answer involves several factors, most importantly the protocols involved and healthiness of the patient.

Until our field settles down into standardized protocols, you can expect a lot of variation. Based on what we’ve observed from our own clinical work, ProgenCell patients report three to four years of benefit. But you can find reports on the Internet from patients of other clinics where they felt they received no benefit whatsoever. The condition of the patient and the way the stem cells were administered both make a great deal of difference.

Unlike pharmaceuticals and transplants, the beneficial effects of stem cell therapy are also more of a strategy than they are an end in themselves. A successful stem cell protocol can mean not having to take prescription medications anymore; it can mean strengthening the immune system long enough to receive a liver transplant – or even regenerating the liver sufficiently to make a transplant unnecessary. What’s it like to have your bone marrow harvested?, stem cells, ProgenCell, Tijuana, alternative medicinePeople can be squeamish about things they’ve never experienced before, especially when it comes to medical procedures, so we’re not surprised when a prospective patient asks us about bone marrow.

The fact of the matter is that the primitive bone marrow transplantation practiced on leukemia patients a half-century ago was slow and painful. But that was an entirely different procedure than what we use at ProgenCell.

Our orthopedic surgeon, a specialist who is particularly skilled with bones, works very quickly to aspirate a very small amount of bone marrow from a single site. As a consequence, our approach is the least invasive method known. This is important for the patient’s comfort, of course, but it also has a therapeutic advantage. Since stem cells “home in” on damaged parts of the body, any wound that might be created during the harvesting lessens the effectiveness of the therapy by monopolizing stem cells that ought to be treating the patient’s condition.

Stefan Sargent, a filmmaker, was so impressed by the lack of discomfort in our harvesting process that he arranged to have a video made of his own procedure. See for yourself here.

How did medicine survive FDA, progencell, stem cells, Tijuana

Those of us who practice on the forefront of medicine get tired of hearing advice like “Don’t trust any doctor whose treatments aren’t approved by the FDA” from bureaucrats and laymen. It’s not that we have anything against the FDA – we’re really natural allies in the advancement of medical practice because we give them discoveries that they turn into accepted procedures. What we do is the yin to the FDA’s yang: we complete one another. We would be much happier if those bureaucrats and laymen understood that our successes today are tomorrow’s FDA protocols.

Imagine what it was like in England in 1800. Almost everyone contracted smallpox and a fifth of them died of the disease. Worse still, those who were “variolated” (inoculated with smallpox as a preventative) also died of the disease. What hope would you have in that environment?

Edward Jenner inoculated people with cowpox in order to protect them from smallpox. He did this in spite of dire warnings from the Anti-Vaccination Society that his technique would produce “cowlike appendages” in his victims. Although the technique was known as early as 1765, and despite an utter lack of adverse events in Jenner’s experiments, it wasn’t until 1840 that the British equivalent of the FDA completely accepted “vaccination” (inoculation with cowpox) as a safe and effective means of suppressing smallpox.

ProgenCell’s work has paralleled Jenner’s in several ways. Like Jenner, we work with well-established discoveries. Like Jenner, we work with governmental regulatory agencies in getting our protocols accepted generally. And like Jenner, we have never had an adverse event from our work.

For those who lived in smallpox areas during Jenner’s day, it made sense to get vaccinated. For those who suffer from untreatable conditions today, it makes sense to look into autologous stem cell therapy. Find out what ProgenCell can do for your untreatable condition. Tijuana is a pleasant surprise, viktordimas, stem cells, Tijuana, ProgenCell

I am very grateful to ProgenCell for giving me back the full use of my leg. About five years ago I fractured my kneecap playing volleyball in college. My orthopedic surgeon wanted to operate but he couldn’t guarantee success and even mentioned that there was a big chance that things would come out even worse than before, so I decided to let my knee heal on its own.

This has meant five years of pain and reduced mobility. During one of my periodic consultations with the orthopedic surgeon, he mentioned having read some reports in the international journals where stem cells had been used successfully. That made me curious and I started looking around the Internet to see what’s available.

What I found was confusing at first and sounded contradictory. So many kinds of stem cells and used in so many different ways! Some of the clinics that I contacted wouldn’t even give me the details of their treatments. Then a friend told me about ProgenCell and I was pleasantly surprised to learn how close they are to my home. I was able to visit them before deciding, and that helped me a lot.

My first visit to Tijuana was a real eye-opener. Not only has it become famous for stem cells, thanks to Bart Starr’s story, but it is also a very nice place to walk around. I felt safer there than I do at home. Returning home was a breeze because ProgenCell gave me a pass to a restricted car lane just for medical tourists.

I had my first treatment a couple of months ago. It took only an hour or so, which gave me plenty of free time to visit Tijuana’s colorful open-air market, its Cultural Center, and some really great restaurants. I was even able to visit an English-speaking dentist who charged me a fourth of what I would pay back home. This is not the city I used to hear about on television! My visits have been relaxing, rewarding and very interesting.

My stem cell treatment didn’t make me feel like a different person right away. My doctors told me to expect that it would take some time for the cells to work their magic. The improvement was gradual but there seems to be more movement in my knee and I’ve noticed recently that I’m not refilling my pain prescription as often as I used to. ProgenCell’s solution has been like a miracle. Thank you so much, ProgenCell. I am looking forward to my next visit.

three are better than one

A year ago I started stem-cell therapy at ProgenCell. I had a problem with my knee from an old bicycle accident. I used to race competitively until one day I took a hard spill – my front wheel seized up and I flew tail over teakettle onto the road, knee first. My bones were okay but I tore some ligaments and ever since my knee has been very painful. The cartilage has worn down over time to where the pain became constant. Starting when I was 27 – and today I’m almost 48 – I’ve been going to “sports” doctors and taking alternative treatments in order to avoid surgery because the people I’ve known with similar conditions who tried surgery have never walked the same and they still have pain.

How did I come to ProgenCell? One day my knee hurt so much that I couldn’t even walk. It frightened me to see that things had gotten so bad because I had already done everything I could think of – except the surgery, which is the last thing I would ever want to do, and it seemed like I had no other option left. I went back on the internet for more “alternative medicine” and came across this amazing stem-cell clinic in Tijuana where they offered me something revolutionary – a non-invasive technique utilizing my own stem cells. I didn’t get half of what the clinic was talking about, but I did understand that my knee would recover the most after three treatments, one every four months. A whole year sounded like a long time to treat my knee but, compared to all the time I had been living in pain, it sounded like it might be worth a try.

So I sent my X-rays to be reviewed by ProgenCell’s medical committee (which I’m told includes three of the best orthopedic surgeons in Tijuana), and they accepted me as a patient. I decided to let them treat my knee with my own stem cells. On my first visit I had serious doubts about how effective all this would be because the procedure seemed too simple – they took my stem cells from my hip and injected them into my knee all within an hour. But four weeks later I noticed that the pain was considerably less than before. Not gone completely, but it made a big difference.

What convinced me to continue with the treatments was that I was finally able to take my morning walk without all that pain and stiffness. That made me think that, if my improvement could continue, I’d be able to return to my daily activities as if I had never had that accident. I decided to return to ProgenCell for the other two treatments of the recommended protocol. One of the great things about this clinic is their flexibility – even though they recommend three treatments, they don’t mind letting you take just one. Even when you agree to the complete protocol to begin with, they’ll only charge you for them individually at the time you show up for each treatment. No pressure.

ProgenCell handles every patient’s case with a lot of personal attention. They gave me a detailed explanation of the protocol and described the effects I should expect from each session. They were very clear and honest with me. This thoughtfulness influenced my decision to continue with my treatments. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the friendliness and professionalism of their doctors create a unique experience for the patient.

three are better than one

It’s been two months since my third procedure at ProgenCell and I can say that my recovery was fairly quick and that my pain is gone completely. ProgenCell has been one of the best investments in my life because I can now live normally. It’s not like I’m going to become a marathon runner, but at least I now have my bicycle back and that’s very important to me. It’s worth taking the full course of therapy to live “the ProgenCell experience”.

Tijuana isn't what you'd think, stem cells, Tijuana, ProgenCellMy mother is undergoing stem-cell therapy at the moment. Her protocol calls for three sessions in order for the stem cells to be most effective. It’s time for her third session and it’s my turn to take her to Tijuana. We live in San Diego, so there’s no problem about travel or staying overnight, but the biggest problem for me was the fear of being in Tijuana. My two brothers took our mother for the previous sessions, and the all told me there’s nothing to worry about, that the news media blew everything out of proportion in 2008. When I told my fiancée that I didn’t want to take my mom to Tijuana, she just rolled her eyes at me and said the city isn’t like that at all, that it’s a lot safe than comparable cities in the United States.

My fiancée used to live in Tijuana. While she was there, the foodie scene really took off, and then the art scene. After that, the news media reported better news and people’s opinions about the places improved a lot. Unfortunately, the negative always gets more importance than the positive, so mostly just the locals knew about the food and art. Even people as close as San Diego didn’t really hear about the good news in Tijuana.

On the other hand, I learned from my own brief investigation, that Tijuana has recently been named as the best destination for medical tourism in all of Mexico. This is due in part to how close it is to the United States and how medical tourists don’t need to take out a passport to visit. Another factor is the outstanding quality and innovation of the medicine being practiced in Tijuana by doctors of international standing. Patients from all over the world come to Tijuana in search of alternative medical treatments that are unavailable to them at home. They can expect to save between forty and eighty percent over the costs back home, with the same quality of service or better. In my investigation I even learned about a special lane at the border that allows medical tourists to cross back into the United States in twenty minutes or less.

Once I saw the true face of Tijuana, I understood that there’s no reason to worry. So, when I took my mother to the ProgenCell clinic, I understood why Tijuana is called Mexico’s top destination for medical tourism. I’ve never seen such professionalism and attentiveness.
While my mother was having her procedure, I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. The area is amazing, not just because of the variety of restaurants and cafés but it’s also home to Tijuana’s Cultural Center, a combination of museum, art gallery, and the IMAX theater-in-the-round nicknamed “La Bola” (The Ball). My short walk showed me a Tijuana that no one ever sees on television.

Because ProgenCell’s procedure is non-invasive, my mother was ready to go as soon as it was over. Then we faced the hardest part of our trip: deciding where to eat. There were hundreds of choices, each more interesting than the last. That’s when I made myself a promise to come back often just to savor as much of the city as possible, to learn about the cultural scene, and maybe even get my own stem-cell treatment for the knee that has been bothering me.

An elderly woman receiving an injection in her finger to check her blood sugar levels

I never thought that diabetes was hereditary, I had read about the topic and most of my research got me into the same conclusion: Diabetes is hereditary. My father has been living with diabetes for ten years now and when we found out about it, all my brothers and I had a big interest to learn more about the disease. I got diagnosed with diabetes as well; I’ve been living with it for almost five years.

Symptoms of diabetes are not so obvious and when you notice them, you already require a visit to the Doctor. In my case, I had a sudden weight loss; I went from wearing jeans size 36 to 34, just in a couple of months. Also I was feeling fatigued all the time and numbness in hands was considerably present.

When I was diagnosed, definitely it was very unpleasant news. My grandfather had died many years ago, because of diabetes complications, so my fear became present.

Fortunately, my wife and my kids have been very supportive during this stage of my life. We have tried everything, homemade remedies, special teas, etc., all of these without leaving medical treatment. Until one day, an old friend from college asked me: If I had heard about stem cells; personally, I had heard something, but I wasn’t an expert about it.

Stem Cells are special cells that regularly are extracted from the bone marrow or fatty tissue, then the cells are taken into a laboratory and finally they are injected into the same person (autologous transplant). These cells are known as regenerative cells, because what they do: tissue repair, increasing cell efficiency therefore making internal organs stronger. In my case, we are talking about my pancreas.

stem cells the best alternative to my disease II, stem cells, Tijuana, ProgenCell, Mexico

After I did more research about Stem Cells, I noticed that a Stem Cell treatment could work to prevent complications on my kidneys, vision, circulatory system and other organs of my body, everything treated at the same time. Also, I was happy to know that there is minimal risk, and there are no secondary effects.

When I got convinced that Stem Cell therapy was an option to treat my diabetes, I decided to investigate where I could get my therapy. The first thought was in the United States. It was hard to find a clinic certified by the FDA. There were so many ads of clinics that offer Stem Cells and not all of them were clear about their services, they do not mention the name of their doctors and specific locations, also some signs that made me uncomfortable were the fact that I was being sold other parallel therapies and additional products. It felt they wanted my business but were not focused on my heath. Very commercial, and expensive, so I decided to search somewhere else. Doing some more online research it came to my attention that Tijuana was getting a higher status among the destinations for health tourism, there I found ProgenCell. I felt they were a good choice for me because I had the chance to talk with one of the doctors, their results offered were congruent, also the facilities look amazing and the attention was excellent.

Finally, I have to say that the stem cell therapy gave me better results than I expected, no pain and my quality of life has increased. My Doctor got impressed with the results from the last blood analysis, the insulin intake has decreased. Definitely I recommend people to explore these stem cells therapy option as well as ProgenCell, not only because they changed my life, also for their care and trust they brought to me.

Finally, the day of my stem cell procedure at ProgenCell is here. It is impressive how fast my case has been followed, since I filled the case evaluation online, until I got my first appointment with the doctor. Definitely it was more simple than I imagined, is so different than in the United States, also, the confidence that I received from the whole staff is incredible, I think it is because since the moment I received the call to follow my evaluation, they’ve made me feel that I have made the correct decision, all my questions have been answered and I have been able to talk with the doctor a couple of times now.

I arrived to Tijuana from the San Diego airport, a simple road trip, no more than 30 minutes drive, fortunately there was no traffic at the border crossing to Mexico, and better yet, ProgenCell’s location is less than five minutes after you cross to Mexico through the San Ysidro – Tijuana Border.

After I entered the clinic, my first impression was that I wasn’t just in any clinic, it is very well established, and the reception is modern, warm and very clean. The way we were received was so kind, also, the whole staff is bilingual, I speak English and Spanish, because my mother moved from Mexico to San Diego when I was 10 years old and I had no choice than to learn English, however, my husband doesn’t speak Spanish, I have tried to teach him but I’ve failed, he says beyond a few words, Spanish is too hard for him, but at ProgenCell we spoke English and Spanish so he also felt the kindness and trust that everyone brings.

With ProgenCell, everything has been good news; my knee injury tends to disappear, even that that I’ve been living with pain for more than five years. The doctors have recommended taking three sessions to eliminate the pain and prevent knee replacement for at least another 10 years.

They also make it easy for a foreigner, they take dollars and Mexican pesos, and have wide options for payment methods: credit cards, checks, bank transfers and of course, cash, and the best of all, you only pay for every individual stem cells therapy session, is not necessary to pay in advance.

Tomorrow is my first session; ProgenCell will take bone marrow from a bone and inject the Stem Cells into my knee cartilage. Considering all surgeries I have done in my life, I am sure I will be able to sleep peacefully tonight, something that didn’t happen during my previous experiences, and this is because from my online research, I am aware that the procedure is not invasive and the pain is really small; I trust Dr. Gaviño and Dr. Romero and the whole staff, I know I am in good hands.

More than 150,000 Americans safely visit Mexico every day. And while the media sensationalizes stories of violence in Mexico, Mexico is safer than many major U.S. cities. Travelers feel relatively safe visiting popular U.S. cities like Miami, Philadelphia, Chicago, New Orleans, Washington D.C, or Atlanta. Visitors from around the world enjoy these vibrant cities in relative, reasonable safety. Yet each of these cities is statistically less safe than Mexico.
